汉英两种语言结构不尽相同，因此在汉译英时可不必拘泥于汉语结构，而要按英语习惯进行改造。对于汉语中的主谓结构或动宾结构，除译成相应的英语分句外，还可采用如下一些处理方法。

一、译成英语名词词组

英语中有一部分名词由动词变化或派生而来，因此有可能把汉语分句中的动词谓语变换为英语的名词词组。

1. 购买了这种通信装置，公安部门将能大大提高工作效率。

Purchase of such telecommunications equipment will substantially improve the working efficiency of the public security department.

2. 1983年初曾对当时的遥测电台作过一次调查，发现大多数都是过时的收发报机，而且是仓促改装成的。

A review of then telemetric stations in early 1983 revealed that most of them were out-of-date transceivers hastily adapted.

也可把汉语分句中的谓语动词设法变为英语分词形式，起修饰作用。

3. 各种干扰源产生很大的噪声，淹没了我们所需要的无线电信号。

The great noise coming from various interference sources suppressed our desired radio signals.

二、译为定语成分

如果汉语分句与另一分句中某个名词关系密切，并且进一步说明该名词时，可将其译为定语。

4. 基片最好用标准印制板材料，材料价格稍稍要贵一些。

A little more expensive standard circuit-board material is preferred for the substate.（形容词作定语）

5. 本文主要介绍一家通信研究所，它位于广州市南郊，规模中等。 

The paper describes, in particular, a medium-sized telecommunications institute, located in the southern suburbs of the city of Guangzhou.（分词作定语）

6. 我们的主要目标之一是研制出一种包装，既要结实牢靠，布线量又要最少。

One of our primary goals was to develop a sort of package not only in firm compact form,but also with minimal wiring.(介词短语作定语）

三、译为状语成分

如果汉语分句与另一分句的谓语部分有密切关系，并且进一步说明其状况或全句的状况，可译为其状语。

7. 全部成品出厂前必须在试验室进行检验，严格把关，一丝不苟。

All products must be inspected strictly and scrupulously in the lab of the factory before delivery.（副词作状语）

8. 把锁相环设计稍加改变，线性偏离就能超过5.0kHz。

With a few simple changes in the PLL design, the linear deviation in excess of 5.OkHz can be obtained.（介词短语作状语）

四、合并近义词

汉语的两句分句中，如动词的意义相近，则其中一个可以不译，以求简练。

9. 本文研究一个实例，探索在一个医疗单位里如何利用通信工具来提高医疗护理工作的质量。

The article is a case study of how to use telecommunications in a medical unit to improve the quality of health care.

10. 电镀后的机械零件外观用肉眼检查，看是否有表面缺陷。

The appearance of the machine parts after electroplating should be checked for surface defects with naked eye.
